Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA), commonly known as acrylic or plexiglass, is valued for its optical clarity, which makes it a strong choice for display cases, signage, or architectural models. FDM-printed PMMA doesn't fully match the clarity of cast acrylic sheet, since layer lines scatter some light, but it's among the clearest results achievable in FDM printing. PMMA is rigid and dimensionally stable, but it's also notably brittle. This is a well-known limitation, and the reason polycarbonate is often chosen instead when impact resistance is the priority. It offers reasonable resistance to many everyday chemicals, though it's soluble in certain solvents. One of PMMA's most genuine strengths is UV resistance: it holds its clarity and color well under prolonged sun exposure without yellowing; it is therefore well suited to outdoor-facing display or signage applications.

The as-printed finish on PMMA parts shows the texture of layer-by-layer printing, with a translucent quality. The visibility of the layer lines depends on part geometry and orientation, plus light marks where support material was removed.
